Foosball World Cup 2010 Final

Monday lunchtime will see the Final of our Foosball World Cup tournament that has been raging for weeks. Many hours have been spent and palms made sweaty over the foosball and what a world cup its been. We have to give a massive shout out to Richard Chester who has run the whole thing pretty much single handedly, sending out inspired match reports and refereeing with impartiality throughout.

Monday at 1pm see’s my team USA take on our other heavyweight blogger Phil’s ICELAND. Game on!

Olympus installation

Here at Linney, we have an installation space that we’ve used in the past to create interesting talking points, linked to the work we do for our clients. Recently, we put one together for Olympus based on their digital voice recorders. As well as a brief history of recording devices, from the Magnetophon to the Minidisc, we also wanted to show the capacity of digital as opposed to analogue recording. An Olympus DS-5000 can hold almost 80 hours of audio, the equivalent of 80 micro cassettes which we used to create this sculpture. For more information about the DS-5000 click here.

Clean design from Lynx

Lynx screen grab

This looks like it may have cost  a fair bit and according to the odd blog (thanks for the info, Si) this was an 8 month project but who cares, it rocks. Lynx online offering has all the cheeky content we would expect from the brand and it’s unswerving devotion to helping young lads pull, but we’re more intersted in how it is all packaged up in a smart bit of interface design. (More interesting than Keeley? Discuss…) Anyway, it’s a great way to use Papervision to display content particularly where there is a lot of it to display like the video page.

Sound advice, Stephen

stephen-king

I’ve never been particularly drawn to Stephen King’s writing, but there’s no denying its mass appeal. He knows how to write in a way that gets readers salivating, so who better to offer advice on simple, effective writing?

“Make yourself a promise right now that you’ll never use “emolument” when you mean “tip” and you’ll never say John stopped long enough to perform an act of excretion when you mean John stopped long enough to take a shit.” Stephen King
