David Fincher, the director behind Fight Club and Zodiac (I’m trying to forget about Benjamin Button) has made a new film about the founders of Facebook. Doesn’t sound all that exciting but with Fincher involved it’s bound to be at least visually interesting. Great, unconventional poster as well.
YouTube videos in which Lego people act out movies are the perfect way to break up a dreary day. Well, put in your headphones and close that Excel doc… Here is the entire Star Wars saga told via Lego… in two minutes and 13 seconds. This video, which hit YouTube on Star Wars day (which also brought us Hans Solo Yourself from the JibJab folks), has already racked up more than 400,000 views.

“A FULL-CG animated piece that tries to illustrate architecture art across a photographic point of view where main subjects are already-built spaces. Sometimes in an abstract way. Sometimes surreal.”

Prague-based designer Pavel Fuksa (a.k.a. jergot+gotroch), ambitiously designed 178 different matchbox designs for use in a new music video by Navigators.

Spike Jonze has an amazing new short film available to watch online called ‘I’m Here’. It is set in a world where robots and humans co-exist, though the former is only used for menial jobs and nothing much else. However, this is slowly changing and Jonze has set his film at a time where some robots are beginning to find a purpose; a reason for existence. They’re also beginning to fall in love with each other. The official site has a really nice interface that represents the experience of going to a movie theatre – check it out here.

To coincide with it’s Kick-Ass edition, Little White Lies have just announced the winners of it’s latest creative brief competition – to transform a favourite film into a six panel comic strip. The winner was David Rigby, who cast an ironic eye over the nuances of the film Zombieland although I think that Total Recall by Matt Boyce and The Wicker Man by Hurk (excerpt shown above) are great. See all the winners here.

Bowerbirds “In Our Talons” from Alan Poon on Vimeo.
Video for the Bowerbirds song In Our Talons, which is off of their 2007 album Hymns for a Dark Horse. Pretty much the entire video is done in stop motion and looks absolutely amazing, way better than most big budget stuff.

Pecha Kucha

On Friday 29th January, the Creative Forum became a Pecha Kucha event where five presenters from around the business talked about a (very) wide variety of subjects. Pecha Kucha is a new way of presenting, as an antidote to dull Powerpoint presentations. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of “chit chat”, it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It’s a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.
After a brief intro, the presentations began, varying from the reality behind being in a touring band to a lesson on how nuclear weapons work (!) Once every presentation finished there was a period of time to discuss and ask questions and at the end of the entire Forum, we spoke about how it all went and where we could use it in the future. A big thanks to everyone who came and especially those who volunteered to present – we plan to post the presentations online soon so watch this space.
Facts About Projection from Studiocanoe on Vimeo. This is a brilliant little film showcasing a dying profession by a really lovely guy called Tem who was in the year above me at Uni. He’s also an incredibly talented illustrator. Temujin Doran

“What do your parents think you do?”, is a question I think most designers can relate to, so, when I saw Lernert & Sander’s series tackling the same subject I was drawn in. Well filmed and uncomplicated, the relationship of a fine artist and their folks is laid bare for the viewer to envy or sympathise.
