Adidas Originals Viral

Some of you probably remember the video of Snoop, Stars, and Adidas taking over the streets of New York. Here a new related viral video, featuring a few more big names, such as Daft Punk and David Beckham. It’s certainly got our studio talking and with over 2 million hits to date it seems to be doing something right. Does it do it for you?

The latest installment of the 2010 Originals campaign, “The Street Where Originality Lives,” combines Star Wars, adidas and the world’s largest sporting event in a cinematic first that takes the FIFA World Cup™ to a whole new galaxy. The film is a creative re-edit of one of the most famous Star Wars movie scenes – the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine – and features David Beckham, Franz Beckenbauer, Snoop Dogg, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, Ciara, Jay Baruchel, Daft Punk and DJ Neil Armstrong, not to mention Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3P0 and Obi-Wan Kenobi. This unique film was created as a result of a close partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd.

LOVED IT made me smile, laugh, loved it, loved it. It’s caused a lot of debate at work “Should Adidas be glorifying violence” Eh? Star Wars is all about good conquering evil it doesn’t glorify violence, not to me.

For the record, I think aside from clearly being very successful at getting people talking its a great piece of viral film.

Having been brought up on Star Wars with a perfectly healthy love of guns / lightsabers it presses all the right buttons for my demographic. Poor old Becks is the only actor whos performance is questionable, even Snoop retains his cred. On a production level its seems very well put together – not that you’d expect anything less from Lucasfilm.

A very interesting collaboration! Geek chic / nerd cool.

….Perhaps it is the best viral ever, if you’re a Star Wars fan. I just thought it was pretty pointless (sorry) and, (being PC about this) stupid to see people playing about with guns. It says “celebrate originality” but what’s original about digging up some old film clips of Harrison Ford?

Or am I missing the point completely?!

When is somebody going to be truly original and NOT use expensive, predictable and boring celebrities in an advertising campaign (viral or not?). Its like we can only relate to it if there is someone in there we recognise. I gedit that its saying the Adidas appeals to a wide spectrum of audiences (DJs, musicians, athletes etc) but, seriously, is it just MEN that wear Adidas? Where are the strong female role models in this?
Put Banksy in it, that’s what I say!!!

BRILLIANT! As a HUGE Star Wars fan, I thought it was really well done & it made me smile! Think it’s quite a controversial piece as there are obviously people out there who don’t like it, but surely it still, then fulfils Adidas’ objectives in that it’s a point for discussion?!
