Falmouth Butterfly

Andy Neal has been in touch to let us know about a collaborative student project that has become this years UCF A0 promotional course poster. Check out the making of it here – I found the course to be a careful balance of theory and practise a with a massive emphasis on ideas generation and thinking. If you’re a student considering where to go to study graphic design, illustration etc. Falmouth should be right up there on your list.

I love the film showing how it was put together – documenting the design process from start to finish tells you so much about the college itself in just a few minutes. It would be good to document a project here in a similar manner.

The only shame for me is that they didn’t construct the letterpress as a whole rather than scanning the elements in. Good stuff though – check out Alan Kitching’s wonderful use of letterpress here http://www.debutart.com/artist/alan-kitching

Makes me want to go back to college, on the sea shore, WOW why didn’t I go to Falmouth. Lovely output, letterpress rocks, love it!

The standard of student work on the Falmouth site is really very strong. The typography is particularly well handled – nice to still see this discipline being treated with the sensitivity it deserves.

Agreed – I often wonder if thats due to the calibre of student Falmouth attracts, or the way the discipline is taught there… It was never pushed more strongly than other areas but approached in a very broad way – visits from stones masons, graffiti artists etc.

Poster has arrived and will be at my desk if anyone would like to see one.
